Another player swap in the works – Shardul Thakur for MI, Arjun Tendulkar to LSG

While the Ravindra Jadeja–Sam Curran trade for Sanju Samson between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals is making headlines, another significant player exchange is under discussion. Cricbuzz reports that Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians are in talks involving Shardul Thakur and Arjun Tendulkar.

The moves may not be a direct trade but separate, all-cash transactions. Both players are expected to change franchises, with the deals likely to be treated as individual transfers.

Under IPL trade rules, the BCCI must officially announce any exchange. Sources in Mumbai cricket circles have confirmed the possibility, and an announcement could come in the next few days, alongside player retention and release lists on November 15.

Shardul Thakur was picked up by LSG as a replacement player for his base price of ₹2 crore after going unsold in the mega auction. Last season, he played 10 matches, scoring 18 runs and taking 13 wickets. He often opened the bowling and proved effective with the new ball.

Arjun Tendulkar has been with Mumbai Indians for two seasons, bought at his base price of ₹20 lakh in both auctions. The 26-year-old left-arm all-rounder did not play last season but has featured in five IPL matches overall, scoring 13 runs and taking three wickets.

It is unclear who initiated the discussions, but both franchises are engaged in the process. Tendulkar previously moved from Mumbai to Goa in domestic cricket and has played 21 first-class matches. Breaking into Mumbai’s star-studded lineup—in domestic cricket or the IPL—has always been a challenge.
