Fruitful session with Tamim helps Najmul hone skills
Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain said he thoroughly enjoyed a session with legendary opener Tamim Iqbal, working on issues that have been troubling him. Najmul, eyeing a T20 comeback via the BPL, did not disclose specifics but said he found the answers he was seeking.
Tamim joined Najmul and his childhood mentor, BCB Tigers head coach Sohel Islam, for a lengthy private session at the BCB indoor facilities, primarily focusing on batting against off-spin.
"I had a good session today with Tamim Iqbal and Sohel Islam Sir," Najmul said. "This is a secret—I can't tell you as it's a technical matter. I've been struggling with a certain issue for about a year and wasn't getting a proper solution. I realized that in our own country, there is someone who has faced this exact thing, been successful, and handled it very well, both technically and mentally."
"I asked Sohel Islam, got the green signal, and called Tamim. He came happily and gave me a long time. I feel the expectation I had was fulfilled; now it depends on how I execute it on the field. I've learned in detail what I needed to."
Najmul had a strong Test year in 2025, scoring 532 runs at 59.11 with three centuries. However, his ODI form dipped—217 runs at 19.72—and he has been out of the T20 setup, playing just one T20I.
Tamim, retired since January 2025, said he is always ready to help when approached. "If anybody needs help, I am always there for them," he stated.
