Smith confirms four-pacer combination for Boxing Day Test

Australia, under Steve Smith, will once again field a four-pacer attack without a frontline spinner for the Boxing Day Test. Nathan Lyon is injured and his replacement, Todd Murphy, has been omitted as the hosts opt for an all-seam strategy.

"We're going to be playing four quicks, no spinner," Smith confirmed on Christmas Day.

The decision follows an assessment of the pitch, which Smith described as having "10 mils of grass, quite furry, quite green." Cool, overcast conditions forecast for the match are expected to further assist the seamers.

Smith emphasized that Murphy's omission was due to conditions, not skill. "I think a lot of the wickets we're playing on at present are certainly more seam-friendly than spin-friendly… You've just got to play what surface you're presented with."

On Jhye Richardson's Return:
Jhye Richardson, added to the squad for this Test, is in contention. Smith expressed excitement about his return, citing his past Ashes success and skill set.
"He's just got a great set of skills. Swings the ball both ways, seams it, accurate… we've seen when he's had the opportunity at this level, he's been outstanding."

Backing Cameron Green:
Smith backed all-rounder Cameron Green to find form, despite modest returns so far in the series.
"He's bowling nicely… In terms of his batting, he probably hasn't got the output that he's wanted so far, but he's had a couple of really good starts… it's about just making those starts and turning them into bigger scores."

Smith's Fitness:
Having missed the previous Test due to a vestibular issue, Smith confirmed he is fully fit.
"I'm good, thanks… feeling 100%. It was a shame to miss that one… but it was the right call at that stage."
