Dhaka Capitals coach dies after collapsing in BPL

Dhaka Capitals assistant coach Mahbub Ali Zaki died after collapsing suddenly at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium during a Bangladesh Premier League match on Saturday. Zaki fell on the ground minutes before his team's opening match against Rajshahi Warriors, shortly after the toss.

Team staff and medical personnel immediately administered CPR before he was taken by ambulance to Al Haramain Hospital, where he was declared dead. BCB's chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed the death.

The sudden collapse shocked everyone at the ground. Dhaka team officials said Zaki had not complained of any health issues prior to the incident.

Players from several BPL teams, including Sylhet Titans, Noakhali Express, and Chattogram Royals, rushed to Al Haramain Hospital as news spread.

Zaki came into the spotlight after working closely with Taskin Ahmed when the bowler's action came under scrutiny during the 2016 T20 World Cup in India.

The BCB expressed deep bereavement and condolences at the death of Mahbub Ali Zaki, Specialist Pace Bowling Coach of BCB Game Development. He was 59.

A former fast bowler, Zaki represented Comilla District in the National Cricket Championship and played in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League for clubs like Abahani and Dhanmondi.

After his playing career, Zaki dedicated himself to coaching, joining the BCB in 2008 as a High Performance coach. He made significant contributions to the development of pace bowling in Bangladesh.

The BCB extended its sympathies to his family, friends, and the cricketing community.
