Status quo on Bangladesh's World Cup fixtures

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not received any actionable intelligence regarding security threats to the Bangladesh team, maintaining the status quo on their T20 World Cup fixtures in India. This follows a formal request from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to relocate their matches.

During a meeting on Tuesday, ICC officials informed the BCB that their security assessments do not indicate any threat to Bangladeshi players in India. The BCB's request, made after an emergency meeting, sought to move all matches outside India to ensure the safety of players and officials.

Currently, the ICC's position does not align with the BCB's, and no final decision was reached. The ICC is expected to convey its final decision to the BCB by January 10.

Bangladesh's scheduled Group C matches in Kolkata are:

  • vs West Indies on February 7
  • vs Italy on February 9
  • vs England on February 14

They are also set to face Nepal in Mumbai on February 17.

Mustafizur set to play in the PSL

The BCB's request is widely viewed as a response to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directing the Kolkata Knight Riders to release Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. In a further countermove, the BCB banned IPL broadcasts in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman has joined the Pakistan Super League (PSL), as indicated by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
