Milne ruled out of T20 World Cup, Jamieson named replacement
New Zealand's Adam Milne has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with a torn left hamstring. Milne sustained the injury on January 18 while playing for the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20. He will be replaced by Kyle Jamieson, who was previously named as a travelling reserve in New Zealand's squad. Another travelling reserve will be announced later.
This injury adds to a series of fitness concerns for New Zealand. Will O'Rourke, Blair Tickner, Nathan Smith, and Ben Sears are all currently injured. Additionally, Mitchell Santner, Mark Chapman, and Matt Henry—who are part of the World Cup squad and currently playing in the series against India—have only recently returned from injuries themselves.
Lockie Ferguson, also in the World Cup squad, is recovering from a calf injury and is not part of the India series. Both Ferguson and Henry are expected to miss parts of the World Cup due to paternity leave.
Head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment: "We're all gutted for Adam. He'd worked so hard to get himself ready for the tournament and was looking back to his best in his eight games for the Eastern Cape Sunrisers. It's unfortunate timing for Adam and we wish him a speedy recovery."
On Jamieson's inclusion, Walter added: "It's great that Kyle is already with us here in India. He's an integral member of our pace-bowling group and has hit the ground running on this tour. He's a hard worker with a good set of skills and experiences that will hold him in good stead for the tournament."
Updated New Zealand squad for T20 World Cup: Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert, Ish Sodhi
