Kane Richardson announces retirement from professional cricket
Australia fast bowler Kane Richardson has announced his retirement from professional cricket at age 34. He represented Australia in 25 ODIs and 36 T20Is, and was a member of Australia's 2021 T20 World Cup-winning squad.
At the domestic level, Richardson played for Northern Territory and South Australia. He made his List-A debut in the 2008-09 season and his international debut in a 2013 ODI against Sri Lanka.
Richardson had a standout Big Bash League (BBL) career, featuring in every edition of the tournament. He played six seasons with the Adelaide Strikers before moving to the Melbourne Renegades for eight seasons. He recently signed a one-year deal with the Sydney Sixers for the 2025-26 edition. He finishes as the BBL's fifth-highest wicket-taker with 142 wickets.
He also played in various franchise leagues globally, including the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In a statement, Richardson said: "From making my debut back in 2009 until now, I feel like I have squeezed every drop out of myself and it is the right time to finish such an enjoyable part of my life."
"I've been fortunate enough to represent my country, along with many franchise teams around the world, and in Australia. I have never taken the opportunity lightly and I hope people watching knew that I had dreamt about being a cricketer since I was a kid in Darwin," he added.
