Steve Smith Signs for Sialkot Stallionz
Sialkot Stallionz have signed Australian batter Steve Smith ahead of their inaugural PSL season. Smith was acquired as a 'direct signing,' with each team allowed one overseas player who did not feature in the previous edition.
Recent Form:
Smith scored 299 runs from six innings for the Sydney Sixers in the recent Big Bash League (BBL). Despite this form, he was omitted from Australia's squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Context:
The 36-year-old went unsold in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. His participation in the PSL will render him unavailable to be picked as a replacement player in the IPL during the tournament window, though there is precedent for players withdrawing from the PSL after securing IPL replacement contracts.
