Namibia edge Scotland in high-scoring T20 World Cup warm-up thriller
In a T20 World Cup warm-up fixture at the BCCI CoE Ground 2 in Bengaluru, Namibia secured a narrow six-run victory over Scotland on Wednesday, despite a blistering 95 from Scotland's Brandon McMullen.
Opting to bat first, Namibia's openers Jan Frylinck (88) and Louren Steenkamp (51) launched an aggressive start, putting on 137 runs for the first wicket. Captain Gerhard Erasmus added an unbeaten 33, and Ruben Trumpelmann contributed a rapid 25, propelling Namibia to a formidable total of 226 for 4.
In response, Scotland lost Michael Jones early, but McMullen's explosive 39-ball innings, featuring six fours and eight sixes, kept them in contention. Mark Watt (33) and captain Richie Berrington (46) provided valuable support, setting up a tense finish with 12 runs needed from the final over. However, Namibia's JJ Smit held his nerve, conceding only five runs and dismissing Berrington to seal the win.
Brief Scores:
Namibia 226/4 in 20 overs (Jan Frylinck 88, Louren Steenkamp 51) beat Scotland 220/5 in 20 overs (Brandon McMullen 95, Richie Berrington 46) by six runs.
