John Mooney appointed Delhi Capitals' fielding coach

Former Ireland all-rounder John Mooney has been appointed Delhi Capitals' fielding coach ahead of IPL 2026. Mooney takes over from Anton Roux and Gnaneswara Rao, who served in the role last season. The 44-year-old has previously worked with West Indies and Afghanistan, most recently with the latter during the Asia Cup.

He joins a coaching staff led by head coach Hemang Badani, with Munaf Patel as bowling coach, Ian Bell as assistant coach and Venugopal Rao as Director of Cricket. Kevin Pietersen, who served as mentor last season, will not return this year.

Mooney played 64 ODIs and 27 T20Is for Ireland and is fondly remembered for scoring the winning runs against England in their famous victory at the 2011 World Cup. Delhi Capitals finished fifth last season and are yet to win an IPL title.
