Dhoni, Brevis hit the nets ahead of PBKS clash

Chennai Super Kings received a boost ahead of their first home fixture as Dewald Brevis and MS Dhoni hit the nets. While uncertainty remains over their participation against Punjab Kings, their return to the nets is positive for a batting unit that lacked experience in the first game against Rajasthan Royals.

Dhoni was initially ruled out for the first two weeks with a calf strain, while Brevis missed the Rajasthan Royals clash with a side strain. Brevis was doing short-run training ahead of that game.

Ahead of their first match at Chepauk, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was noncommittal about both players.

"He's taken off today, so I'm not really sure. Yesterday, we didn't have a chat," Gaikwad said about Brevis. However, minutes after CSK began practice, Brevis batted in a separate nets facility with no visible discomfort.

When asked about Dhoni's rehabilitation, Gaikwad chuckled, saying an update would come on the 13th day, as Dhoni was ruled out for two weeks. But before CSK concluded practice, Dhoni took throwdowns in the nets and smashed several deliveries into the stands.

In Brevis' absence, CSK played Matthew Short at No.4, with Sarfaraz Khan as an impact sub. CSK have a short turnaround after the PBKS fixture, facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (April 5).
