Ankle injury rules David Payne out of IPL 2026
Sunrisers Hyderabad's left-arm seamer David Payne has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 with an ankle injury, adding to the franchise's growing list of absentees. Payne had joined the squad as a replacement for Jack Edwards, who was earlier sidelined with a foot injury. SRH haven't yet named a replacement for Payne.
The 35-year-old Payne featured in only two games this season, returning figures of 2 for 35 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season opener and 0 for 35 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The 2016 champions have been hit by a spate of injuries. England allrounder Brydon Carse was also ruled out recently after suffering a hand injury during a net session at the start of the season. He did not feature in a game, prompting SRH to rope in Sri Lanka quick Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement.
However, there is some positive news for SRH on the injury front. Captain Pat Cummins has been cleared to rejoin the squad after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney. Cummins is yet to play this season but is targeting a potential return against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 25.
In Cummins' absence, Ishan Kishan has led the side, with SRH currently placed fourth on the points table with two wins from five games. They are level on four points with multiple teams but ahead on net run rate. SRH head into their next fixture against Chennai Super Kings in Hyderabad on the back of a win over the Royals, powered by impressive four-fers from IPL debutants Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain.
