MCA introduces contract system for domestic cricketers
The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced a new player contract system for its domestic cricketers, covering both men's and women's teams. The system is designed to offer financial security and a structured framework for players within the MCA setup.
Eligible players will receive contracts based on performance, fitness benchmarks, and selection committee recommendations. The initiative aims to support players nearing higher-level progression while ensuring stability at the domestic level.
Contract Structure
Players will be categorized into three grades with the following annual retainers:
- Grade A: ₹12 lakh to ₹20 lakh
- Grade B: ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh
- Grade C: ₹8 lakh
In addition to retainers, contracted players will receive match fees, daily allowances, and performance-based incentives as per MCA policies.
Objectives
The system aims to:
- Provide financial stability
- Establish a professional environment
- Encourage consistency and fitness standards
- Create a pathway for progression to higher levels of cricket
Leadership Statement
MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, "This initiative marks a new era for Mumbai cricket. We are proud to be the first association to implement a player contract system—a progressive step that will provide greater security, structure, and growth opportunities for our Mumbai players."
