BCCI clears RR manager Romi Bhinder of wrongdoing
Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder has been cleared of any wrongdoing after being seen using a mobile phone near the dugout, which violates anti-corruption protocols. The BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has imposed a nominal fine of ₹1 lakh and issued a warning, treating it as a first-time offence.
Following a show-cause notice and inquiry, the ACSU found Bhinder was indiscreet in using the phone near the dugout but found no evidence of malicious intent. The lenient view considered his long association with the IPL since its inaugural season.
Anti-corruption rules prohibit mobile phone use within the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA). While team managers are permitted phone access, they are only allowed to use them inside the dressing room.
Bhinder, Rajasthan Royals manager since 2008, received leniency due to his long experience, first-time offence, and a documented medical emergency involving serious lung issues, which he had communicated to the BCCI in advance.
The incident occurred during the Rajasthan Royals vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru match in Guwahati on April 10. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, seen sitting beside Bhinder, has not been implicated in the matter.
