Spin choke, Allen ton keep KKR's surge rolling

Kolkata Knight Riders' spinners stifled DC's batters through the middle overs, holding them to 142 for 8. That total was surpassed with 34 balls to spare and 8 wickets in hand, courtesy Finn Allen's 47-ball century. The victory added to the mid-season drama of IPL 2026 as KKR jumped to seventh spot on the points table, keeping their qualification hopes alive while denting Delhi Capitals' momentum.

Phase DC KKR RR (DC – KKR) 4s/6s (DC – KKR)

Brief Scores: Delhi Capitals 142/8 in 20 overs (Pathum Nissanka 50, Ashutosh Sharma 39; Sunil Narine 1-17, Kartik Tyagi 2-25, Anukul Roy 2-31) lost to Kolkata Knight Riders 147/2 in 14.2 overs (Finn Allen 100*, Cameron Green 33*; Axar Patel 1-27) by 8 wickets

The Spin Choke

Allen's 47-ball century was exceptional, but the spinners' middle-overs effort set up the win. Sunil Narine was brilliant, conceding only six runs for one wicket in three overs, choking DC's scoring and seizing momentum for KKR.

On a surface where Punjab Kings had chased down 264 weeks earlier, early promises of another high-scoring contest emerged, though shot-making wasn't easy. DC openers started well, with Pathum Nissanka taking on Anukul Roy early. Narine was taken for 11 runs in his first over as boundaries came down the ground or on the leg side. But KL Rahul failed to pick a slower ball and miscued an inside-out shot, ending the opening stand on 49.

Did KKR Claw Back?

Not immediately. Nissanka kept finding boundaries, swinging Vaibhav Arora off his pads, dabbing Varun Chakaravarthy through third, and picking Cameron Green over the ropes. But Nitish Rana struggled against spin and was foxed by Green's slower delivery. At 8 overs, DC were 74 for 2.

The Collapse

Over the next six overs, Anukul, Narine, and Chakaravarthy bowled two overs each, conceding only 18 runs and taking three wickets: Sameer Rizvi (slogsweep to deep midwicket), Nissanka (stumped off a wide), and Tristan Stubbs (cleaned up). The innings came undone.

DC resisted bringing an extra batter as Impact Sub, letting Ashutosh Sharma and Axar Patel adopt a cautious approach. Ashutosh survived a close LBW appeal in the 16th over, but momentum had been sucked out. At 98 balls, they languished at 101 runs.

Axar never found fluency, but Ashutosh was fed quick deliveries from Chakaravarthy, putting them away easily. The spinner conceded 16 runs in the last four balls of the 17th over, providing late momentum.

The Chase

Finn Allen and Ajinkya Rahane were measured, waiting for scoring opportunities. They cruised to 29 by the third over's penultimate ball when a straight hit from Allen had Rahane run out at the non-striker's end.

That triggered a brief slowdown. Angkrish Raghuvanshi lost sight of the ball while attempting to sweep Axar and was bowled off his gloves. With Axar squeezing three overs in the Powerplay, Allen and Green chose a conservative route. Allen reached 17-ball 20 by Powerplay end; Green was at 7-ball 9.

Picking Up Pace

Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav had nowhere to hide. When pitched up, batters hit down the ground. When shorter, they rocked back and pulled. Allen took down Nigam in the seventh over for a boundary and six, then Kuldeep in the next. Stubbs couldn't hold a catch at long-on. Allen brought up his half-century in the 11th over's first ball, scooping Mitchell Starc for six.

Green, initially kept in check, began taking chances. He pulled Kuldeep's half-tracker for six in the 12th over, then became a spectator to Allen's six-fest. He took a single off the 15th over's first ball to give Allen, on 94, a shot at a century. The New Zealander clubbed his 10th six to wrap up the game.

Where They Stand

KKR have jumped to seventh spot with their fourth win and nine points. DC have fallen to eighth with only three games remaining. Axar offered a resigned look: "We will plan for the next season and try to give chances to those on the bench in the upcoming games."

What's Next

KKR have a long break before facing RCB in Raipur (May 13), while DC fly to Dharamsala to take on Punjab Kings on Monday (May 11).
