Australia pick Lucy Hamilton for Women's T20 WC

Australia have announced their squad for the 2026 Women's T20 World Cup, with Lucy Hamilton earning a first-time berth and Grace Harris returning to the setup.

The 15-member squad, led by Sophie Molineux, includes both Harris and Annabel Sutherland, who did not feature in their tour of the Caribbean in March. Darcie Brown failed to make the cut.

The team has plenty of fast-bowling options, ranging from 20-year-old Hamilton to Ellyse Perry (set to play her 10th T20 World Cup) as well as experienced hands Megan Schutt and Kim Garth. The spin department, headlined by Molineux, includes Alana King alongside Ash Gardner and Georgia Wareham. Gardner and Tahlia McGrath are the two deputies to Molineux.

Tahlia Wilson has been named as the reserve player.

Hamilton is fresh into international cricket, having made her Test and ODI debuts against India in March, and has played only one T20I so far, against the West Indies. She made her way in ahead of Brown, who went wicketless in all four T20Is she bowled this year.

Speaking on the decision to select Hamilton over Brown, national selector Shawn Flegler said: "Darcie Brown was unlucky to miss out but the decision was based on the conditions we're expecting and the makeup of the side. With at least six right-arm pace options in the mix and raw pace expected to be less effective, we opted to go with Lucy Hamilton who offers something different as a left-arm quick.

"These squads are never easy to select but we're confident with the balance and stability we've got across the group," he also said. "It's an experienced group and one we believe is capable of winning the World Cup."
