Barbados Royals Relaunches as Barbados Tridents Ahead of CPL 2026
Barbados Royals will relaunch as Barbados Tridents, the franchise's original name, ahead of the 2026 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season. This follows the "One Barbados" partnership between the Government of Barbados and Royals Sports Group, the franchise's parent company.
The Tridents were one of six original CPL franchises when the league launched in 2013, winning titles in 2014 and 2019. After Royals Sports Group acquired a majority stake ahead of the 2021 season, the team was renamed Barbados Royals and played under that name for five years, including three Women's CPL seasons.
The three-year One Barbados partnership is intended to be part of a larger national movement, positioning the franchise as a year-round national asset. This brings together public and private entities as the island celebrates its 60th year of independence on November 30.
The Government of Barbados has agreed in principle to become a minority co-investor in the franchise, subject to pending approvals.
"The return to the Barbados Tridents reflects our confidence, pride, and ambition as a nation as we chart the path toward our next 60 years. Cricket has long been a core pillar of our national identity," said Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley.
While the Royals sported pink, the Tridents will return to Barbados' national colours—ultramarine, golden yellow, and black. The franchise will continue to embrace pink through a dedicated "Pink Promise" charity match during the CPL season to raise funds for charitable causes.
