KKR's revival charge meets RCB's top-two ambitions
Despite some hiccups, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have had a smooth run in IPL 2026, moving to the top of the table after a last-ball win against Mumbai Indians in Raipur. To strengthen their push for a top-two finish, they must face a Kolkata Knight Riders side that has found form at the business end. KKR looked down and out after managing only one point from their first six matches before stitching together four successive wins to revive their playoff hopes.
KKR now lean on a batting unit showing far greater intent and a bowling attack delivering collectively. For RCB, this is about maintaining their hold at the top, though there are signs of vulnerability in their batting, particularly at the top order.
In Phil Salt's absence, Jacob Bethell hasn't made an impact across the last four matches while Virat Kohli's two successive ducks have forced the middle order into action earlier than desired. Jitesh Sharma and Romario Shepherd have also struggled for runs.
For KKR, Varun Chakaravarthy's return to form has been key, with eight wickets in his last four games. But his availability appears uncertain after he injured himself against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was later seen limping against Delhi Capitals. KKR's batting has been powered by a top order delivering consistently, including Finn Allen's unbeaten 47-ball century in the previous match.
