GT target table-topping excellence; KKR fight for survival
The luxury of separation and the desperation of survival. On the two ends of this IPL season spectrum reside Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders. Shubman Gill's team is on a roll, a five-game winning streak that has it near the top of the table. GT are on par with RCB, the best team of the season – separated only by NRR. Add a sixth win on Saturday and they'll stride above, leaving the ball in RCB's court.
GT's purple patch has a wonderful shade of admirable bowling. Most recently, they flexed that muscle against one of the most devastating top-orders – SRH – with a prolific Powerplay pair of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada. There's depth and quality to the attack that now compliments a top-order with three batters capable of big volume runs.
At the opposite end of GT's serenity is KKR's chaos. At different stages, the 2024 champions looked like they'd be the earliest to fall out of the playoffs race, but have hung on. KKR picked up a solitary point thanks to the weather in their first six games, but followed with four straight wins. RCB denied them a fifth. They're now in a mathematical tangle – win your games, and cross your fingers.
When: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans, Match 60, 7:30 PM IST
Where: Eden Gardens, Kolkata
What to expect: Another chaser's venue. SRH defended a 200-plus total here but the two other completed fixtures saw 181 and 155 chased down.
Head-to-head: GT lead 4-1 overall (1 game abandoned). At Eden Gardens, KKR have lost both games to GT.
Injuries/Unavailability: Varun CV missed KKR's last game with a niggle. He bowled in the nets on the eve of the game; the medical team is monitoring his progress. Rachin Ravindra has left the camp to prepare for New Zealand's Test tour of England.
Tactics & Match-ups: Should Varun return, there could be an interesting duel with Jos Buttler. Across T20s, Buttler has scored 88 off 61 balls against Varun at a strike rate of 144.26, dismissed 7 times.
Even if Buttler falters, Shubman Gill has the tools (and numbers) to blunt that threat. He has faced 38 balls from Varun and scored 63 runs without being dismissed.
KKR Probable XII: Ajinkya Rahane (c), Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (wk), Cameron Green, Rinku Singh, Rovman Powell, Manish Pandey, Sunil Narine, Anukul Roy, Vaibhav Arora, Kartik Tyagi, Varun CV/Saurabh Dubey

- Kartik Tyagi has eight death overs wickets in IPL 2026. Only Anshul Kamboj has more (11).
- KKR have the best catching efficiency this season (87.5%).
- Kagiso Rabada has the most Powerplay wickets in IPL 2026 (16).
"The Powerplay has been a bit challenging for us this year, but we're always looking to take wickets early so that it becomes easier for the spinners coming in. Sending Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan back in the Powerplay will be a huge advantage for us." – KKR's Kartik Tyagi
