Bowlers, Pandey propel KKR to keep playoff hopes relevant

Kolkata Knight Riders' second-half resurgence continued with a crucial win over Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens. On a sluggish pitch, KKR's bowlers restricted MI before Manish Pandey steadied the chase in his first batting innings this season. The result lifted KKR to sixth on the points table, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Phase MI KKR Run-rate (MI-KKR) 4s/6s (MI-KKR)
Powerplay 46/4 51/2 7.66 – 8.50 4/3 – 9/0
Middle Overs 48/1 67/2 5.33 – 7.44 2/2 – 7/1
Death Overs 53/3 30/2 (3.5 overs) 10.60 – 7.82 5/3 – 4/1

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 147/8 in 20 overs (Corbin Bosch 32*; Cameron Green 2-23, Saurabh Dubey 2-34, Sunil Narine 1-13) lost to Kolkata Knight Riders 148/6 in 18.5 overs (Manish Pandey 45, Rovman Powell 40; Corbin Bosch 3-30) by 4 wickets.

Green, Dubey rock MI early

Opting to field first, KKR began with tidy overs as Dubey hit the right lengths. Green induced a top-edge off Ryan Rickelton as Pandey covered ground at point for an excellent catch. Green struck again as Naman Dhir poked outside off, with DRS overturning the on-field decision.

Rohit lapped Dubey for six over fine leg but miscued a slower one to Green at mid-wicket. Suryakumar Yadav hit two exquisite boundaries off Green before dragging Dubey onto his stumps as MI lost a fourth wicket in the Powerplay.

Tilak entangled by the Narine web

KKR didn't use their spinners in the Powerplay. Once Narine came on, Tilak Varma was tied down. Rain interrupted for an hour but Narine beat Tilak on both edges upon resumption. Tilak miscued one but Angkrish Raghuvanshi collided with Chakaravarthy who shelled the catch. Tilak's laborious 32-ball 20 was ended by Tyagi. A ripping Narine off-break cleaned up Hardik Pandya, leaving MI at 95/6.

Bosch, Chahar add finishing touches

Will Jacks was run out attempting a second run. Deepak Chahar sliced wide-yorkers from Dubey to the fence before Corbin Bosch dispatched slot deliveries from Tyagi. Chahar fell off the final ball but those cameos took MI to a competitive score.

A testing Powerplay, but KKR get ahead

Finn Allen hit two boundaries off Chahar before playing onto his stumps. Pandey walked in at 3 after Raghuvanshi went off injured. Despite Bumrah hooping the ball, Rahane and Pandey relied on timing to pocket three boundaries off Bumrah in the fourth over. Bosch nabbed Rahane in the final Powerplay over as the skipper edged behind.

Powell, Pandey forge effective partnership

Green handed Bosch a second wicket but Rovman Powell started with a first-ball six. Hardik should have had Powell but Chahar and substitute Minz left the catch to each other, letting the ball drop between them. Pandey pocketed consecutive boundaries as a 64-run partnership with Powell put the chase beyond doubt.

Bumrah strikes at last, but KKR get through

Bumrah cleaned up Pandey for his fourth wicket of the season. Bosch plucked a stunner at backward point to dismiss Powell. Dahiya debuted as concussion sub for Raghuvanshi, getting off the mark with a boundary. Rickelton dashed to deep fine leg to pull off a sensational catch as Dahiya fell for 10. Rinku remained unbeaten for a fifth successive innings, sealing the job with a boundary as KKR recorded their sixth win.

Both teams feature in the final double-header on Sunday. MI host Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede, while KKR face Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens.
