BCCI ASCU pulls the plug on usage of smart sunglasses
The Board of Control for Cricket in India's Anti Corruption and Security Unit has warned teams participating in IPL 2026 to not possess or use 'Smart Goggles' in the tournament.
Cricbuzz has obtained the protocols issued by the BCCI to franchises on May 18. Certain companies selling these smart sunglasses or goggles to players and support staff are equipped with advanced communication features including live streaming, sending and receiving text messages, as well as audio and video calling via mobile data or Wi-Fi.
Under the Players and Match Officials Area standards, these glasses or goggles are classified as an 'Audio/Video recording device' and a 'Communication Device.' Possession or usage of such devices is strictly banned in the PMOA area.
On match days, all players and support staff must deposit such devices with the 'Security Liaison Officer' alongside their mobile phones and smartwatches while entering the PMOA. Failure to adhere shall be deemed a breach of protocols, resulting in potential penalties.
