ICC delegation arrives in Bangladesh ahead of crucial BCB elections
A two-member International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation arrived in Dhaka on Monday for meetings with stakeholders of the Bangladesh Cricket Board ahead of the upcoming election, scheduled for June 7.
"Yes, an ICC delegation team arrived today," Faim Sinha, BCB ad-hoc committee member told Cricbuzz.
ICC confirmed the development in an official release announcing their representatives' visit to Bangladesh.
"Two ICC Board representatives, Dr Mohammed Moosaje (Cricket South Africa) and Tavengwa Mukuhlani (Zimbabwe Cricket), are scheduled to visit Bangladesh to engage with stakeholders regarding the situation in Bangladesh including the BCB electoral process," ICC said in a statement.
The visit comes at a significant time for Bangladesh cricket following recent changes in the board's leadership and preparations for the upcoming BCB elections.
BCB is currently run by Tamim Iqbal-led 11-member ad-hoc committee after the National Sports Council dissolved the previous Aminul Islam-led board over large-scale irregularities in the last board election, following a probe committee report.
Aminul Ehsan, Sports Director of the NSC, confirmed significant irregularities in the last BCB election that forced the dissolution. "The committee observed that Mr. Aminul Islam Bulbul's unilateral nomination of 10 former cricketers had a significant impact on the election process. This gave him an advantage from those councillors and potentially influenced the election results," he said.
"The National Sports Council, after reviewing the report, has reached the position that there were significant weaknesses and irregularities in the election process. We have informed the ICC via email about the decision to dissolve this committee and form an 11-member ad-hoc committee, which will be bound to deliver an elected committee within the next three months and will remain empowered to conduct normal cricket activities," he added.
