Nayeem Hasan appeals for privacy following police assault
Bangladesh Test off-spinner Nayeem Hasan has requested privacy and space as he recovers from the traumatic ordeal of being abducted and allegedly assaulted by police officers on Saturday.
The incident occurred late at night after Nayeem returned home following his final game for Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier League at BKSP on June 12.
Nayeem, picked for the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe, appeared visibly shaken while recounting the incident after being released from police custody.
"I need some space," Nayeem told reporters at his house in Chattogram on Sunday. "I am very tired and need some sleep," he said, adding he had nothing more to disclose.
Bangladesh Cricket Board officials confirmed they have sent a member of their medical team to help him recover mentally.
"One of our officials of the medical unit went to Chattogram to see him as this kind of thing has a long lasting effect on the mind," a BCB official said.
Mohammad Mithun, CWAB president, said: "He couldn't complete a sentence as he was weeping… We need to support him mentally because he seems broken mentally more than physically."
BCB president Tamim Iqbal assured CWAB of a proper investigation.
Meanwhile, three police members, including a sub-inspector, have been withdrawn from Khulshi Police Station following Nayeem's allegations.
