Spinners set up Australia's 1-0 lead in T20Is
Australia spinners accounted for nine of the 10 wickets to fall as the visitors shrugged off the ODI series loss to begin the T20I leg of the tour with a fairly comfortable victory. Adam Zampa led the way with three wickets while debutant Joel Davies also took three.
Matt Renshaw and debutant Nikhil Choudary combined for three more wickets as Bangladesh folded cheaply for 131. Australia had hiccups during their chase but won by four wickets in the penultimate over.
Without injured Litton Das, stand-in captain Towhid Hridoy elected to bat first. Saif Hasan and Tanzid Hasan started aggressively before Spencer Johnson took the only pace wicket in the third over. Renshaw removed Saif in the fifth over.
Hridoy began with a six first ball but was bowled attempting to sweep Zampa. Bangladesh struggled from 57/3, threatening to collapse under 100 before Mahedi Hasan's unbeaten 29 off 22 provided some resistance.
Australia lost openers Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis in the Powerplay, but Cooper Connolly's quick 47 off 27 shifted momentum. Bangladesh's debutant Abdul Gaffar Saqlain claimed Connolly as his first international wicket, and later removed Tim David, but Choudary's composure saw Australia home.
Brief Scores: Bangladesh 131 in 19 overs (Mahedi Hasan 29*; Adam Zampa 3-18, Joel Davies 3-17, Matt Renshaw 2-26) lost to Australia 133/6 in 18.2 overs (Cooper Connolly 47; Abdul Gaffar Saqlain 2-32) by 4 wickets
