401, 233, 626: The numbers behind West Indies' big batting day
Amir Jangoo (233) and Roston Chase's (194) knocks underlined West Indies' batting marathon against Sri Lanka in North Sound.
401 – The stand between Jangoo and Chase is the second-highest for any wicket for West Indies, behind only the 446-run partnership between Gary Sobers and Conrad Hunte in 1958. The pair batted for 100.2 overs – the fourth-longest for West Indies. This is only the second 400+ partnership against Sri Lanka after Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones' 467-run stand in 1991.
1 – First instance of a 400+ partnership for the sixth wicket or lower in Test history. Previous highest was 399 by Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow in 2016.
12 – Chase and Jangoo became the 12th West Indies pair to score 150+ in the same innings. Last pair to do so was Brathwaite and Chanderpaul in 2023.
11 – Jangoo became the 11th West Indies batter to convert his maiden Test century into a double hundred. His 233 is the fifth-highest of the 11. He now has three first-class centuries, all converted to double hundreds – the first batter to do so.
8 – Jangoo became only the eighth player to register his maiden century in both Tests and ODIs within their first three innings in the format.
233 – Second-highest individual score in Tests between West Indies and Sri Lanka, behind Chris Gayle's 333. First double century on West Indian soil since Jason Holder's 202* in 2019.
2693 days – Gap between Chase's last two Test hundreds. Only Shai Hope had a longer wait (2968 days). Chase's 53-innings gap between centuries is the second-longest for a West Indies batter.
234 – Runs conceded by Sonal Dinusha, the second most by a Sri Lankan bowler in a Test innings. Only Rangana Herath (240) has conceded more.
