Wasim Jaffer appointed mentor of Hyderabad
Wasim Jaffer has been appointed mentor of the Hyderabad team for the next two years. The former India opener, top-scorer in Indian domestic cricket history, will oversee the side.
Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) secretary T Basavaraju confirmed the development, stating it is almost finalised pending a few technicalities, with a formal announcement expected soon. Jaffer also confirmed accepting the role.
Jaffer's appointment was driven by Ambati Rayudu, recently appointed Director of Cricket by the HCA. Jaffer will work closely with Hyderabad's coaching staff, whose appointments are yet to be confirmed.
Jaffer (48), who played 31 Tests and two ODIs for India, has previously coached Uttarakhand, served as batting consultant to Vidarbha, and worked with the Bangladesh national team and Punjab Kings in the IPL.
Hyderabad, two-time Ranji Trophy champions, finished fourth in Elite Group B of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy, topped Elite Group B in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy but missed the final on NRR, and finished sixth in Group B of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
