After India exploits, Moondra headlines ETPL draft as Dockers' first pick

Jai Moondra, recently named Player of the Series in Ireland's T20I series win over India, was among the headline picks in the inaugural European T20 Premier League (ETPL) player draft, with Rotterdam Dockers selecting the bowler as their opening pick.

The draft saw the league's six franchises pick 36 players, with 12 each from Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands. Curtis Campher (Amsterdam Flames), Matthew Humphreys (Irish Wolves), Benjamin Calitz (Dublin Guardians), Gareth Delany (Edinburgh Castle Rockers), and Brad Currie (Glasgow Cosmic) were the other franchises' respective first selections.

Beyond their opening picks, Flames added Kyle Klein and Tim Pringle; Wolves signed Paul Stirling and Fred Klaassen; Guardians brought in George Dockrell and Craig Young; Castle Rockers picked Ross Adair and Safyaan Sharif; Cosmic secured Matthew Cross and Paul van Meekeren while Dockers complemented Moondra with Michael Levitt and Ryan Klein.

Rotterdam Dockers co-owner Jonty Rhodes said Moondra had been a priority pick. "Jai Moondra was someone we were particularly keen to bring into the squad after the way he has announced himself on the international stage. He is an exciting young talent with tremendous potential, and we're delighted to have secured him."

Guardians captain and mentor R Ashwin argued that their focus was more on balance than nationality. "While majority of our picks were Irish, nationality comes second; it's about the quality of the player and how they will fit into our mix. Every single player that you pick must be a playable resource."
