'Playing with conviction, freedom and belief' – Mooney on Australia's seventh title

Beth Mooney capped another memorable ICC campaign by collecting both Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament awards after guiding Australia to a record-extending seventh Women's T20 World Cup title with a commanding seven-wicket victory over England.

Mooney powered the chase with 64 off 49 deliveries, featuring 10 fours, as Australia overhauled England's 150/4 in just 17.1 overs. She finished as Australia's leading run-scorer with 238 runs at an average of 47.60 and a strike rate of 142.51, registering three half-centuries.

Mooney became the first player to win Player of the Match in two Women's T20 World Cup finals (2023 and 2025) – only Marlon Samuels has achieved the feat in the men's event. She also became the first to win the Player of the Tournament award twice in the Women's T20 World Cup (2020 and 2025), emulating Virat Kohli in the men's competition. Additionally, she is only the second player after Amelia Kerr (2024) to complete the Player of the Tournament-Player of the Match double in the same edition.

Reflecting on the triumph, Mooney said: "This has been on the calendar for a little while. It's just nice to be part of the squad and have a role to play. There's been a lot of evolution in this group in the last 12 months, a lot of growth and some fun times. Really nice that we've capped it off with this."

She credited Australia's fearless approach: "Just playing with a bit of conviction, a lot of freedom and bravery, backing each other and having more belief. Our coaching and support staff are amazing. We had a few niggles but managed to have a full squad to pick from in a big game, and you can't shy away from how important that is."

On her match-winning innings alongside Phoebe Litchfield after an early wicket, she said: "It's really important to settle the dugout in the Powerplay in a big game. Voll got us off to a great start but had an unfortunate dismissal. Phoebe nailed it from ball one, so I kept going and tried to make sure we got ahead as early as possible."

Mooney reserved special praise for new captain Sophie Molineux: "She's been amazing – calm, composed, not flustered. She's put her own spin on the captaincy and been a great leader for a long time; people probably just haven't been able to see that. The girls have really got around her, and it's amazing icing on the cake for a pretty amazing tournament for us as a group."
