India seek response after Nottingham nightmare

India's tour of England has rapidly turned from a chance to rebuild the T20 outfit into a battle for survival. After the opening match was washed out, England have seized complete control of the series with consecutive victories, culminating in a crushing win at Trent Bridge where India were bundled out for just 76 – their heaviest defeat by runs in T20Is. Heading into Bristol, Shreyas Iyer's side have little room for error, with another defeat handing England an unassailable lead.

The scrutiny surrounding this Indian side has only intensified. Having already suffered a 0-2 series defeat in Ireland under Iyer's captaincy, the team's transition under head coach Gautam Gambhir has been anything but smooth. Jofra Archer's comments on IPL pitches being "easy" and English pitches being about "normal" cricket, will only add more fuel to the fire.

One decision that continues to dominate discussions is the omission of Sanju Samson. The wicketkeeper-batter, who starred during India's triumphant T20 World Cup campaign earlier this year, was left out of the XI with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi being preferred. With the batting failing spectacularly in Nottingham, calls for Samson's return have only grown louder.

England, meanwhile, have been clinical in every department. Their pace attack has exposed India's vulnerabilities, while the batting unit has repeatedly found contributions throughout the order. India now arrive in Bristol searching for that elusive win under Iyer's leadership.

"You don't become a bad team after four games. Sometimes, if the opposition plays better than you… sometimes you don't assess the conditions better, you don't read the conditions better. Reading the game is equally important. We haven't done that since Ireland." – Gautam Gambhir

"Well yeah, I think it's even now. But we've got another two games left and it could go either way, so may the best man win." – Jofra Archer
