BCCI to Conduct Review of India's Performance in England
The BCCI has confirmed a review of India's performance in Ireland and England. "We will have a review meeting with the core members of the team to discuss what went wrong in England," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said.
India have lost back-to-back T20I series in Ireland and England, including their first-ever series defeat to Ireland and their heaviest T20I defeat against England at Trent Bridge. One game remains in the five-match series, but the series is already lost.
"The BCCI is currently observing the performance of the Indian T20 team which has not been up to the mark. However, this is not abnormal and can happen in international cricket. We consider it a purely bad phase," Saikia said from Edinburgh, where he is attending the ICC annual conference.
India are the defending T20 World Champions but have struggled overseas. Debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has scored 14, 13, and 15 in his first three international matches.
India are yet to win under captain Shreyas Iyer, with five losses and one no result in six games. "The review meeting will be strictly about the team's performance and how to address shortcomings," Saikia said.
This is England's first bilateral T20I series win over India. The T20Is will be followed by three ODIs featuring Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. "Once the ODI series ends on July 19, we will have a review meeting," Saikia added.
