Winds of Change Blow in Bloemfontein

England's Dominant Display

England's dominant display in the first session of the Test against South Africa was marked by a century from Maia Bouchier and a half-century from Nat Sciver-Brunt. The pair shared a 174-run partnership off 172 deliveries, with almost three-quarters of their runs coming from fours and sixes.

Bouchier's Maiden Century

Bouchier, playing her 388th game of cricket, made a stunning debut with a century off 124 balls, the fastest by an England player and the second-fastest overall. Her innings was a testament to her experience at first-class level and her intent and application at the crease.

Sciver-Brunt's Record-Breaking Ton

Sciver-Brunt, playing her second Test, scored a world record-breaking 128 runs off 96 deliveries, including her second Test ton. Her straight drive brushed Nonkululeko Mlaba's hand and hit the stumps, leading to her dismissal at the non-striker's end.

South Africa's Struggles

South Africa struggled to contain the English pair, with their bowling being toothless and their fielding poor. The lack of DRS (Decision Review System) also hindered their efforts, as the decision not to deploy it was exposed as a damaging folly.

Mlaba's Impressive Turnaround

Nonkululeko Mlaba, who had a poor start to the match, took an impressive 4/77 in addition to running out Sciver-Brunt. Her contribution delayed the taking of the new ball by 10 overs, and she expressed her determination to bounce back from a poor start.

England's Strong Finish

England's last pair, Laurens Filer and Bell, faced an over each from Marizanne Kapp and Ayanda Hlubi before Heather Knight declared at 395/9. The South Africans will face six overs before stumps, with all 10 wickets still standing.
