Mahmudullah retires from international cricket
Bangladesh's experienced cricketer, Mahmudullah, has announced his retirement from international cricket. The 39-year-old made the announcement on his social media platforms on Wednesday (March 12).
Mahmudullah expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, family, and fans, acknowledging their unwavering support throughout his career. He also thanked his brother, Emdad Ullah, for his guidance since childhood, and his wife and children for their support during challenging times.
The veteran cricketer, who represented Bangladesh in 239 ODIs, 50 Tests, and 141 T20Is, is the only player from Bangladesh to have scored three centuries in ODI World Cups. Two of these centuries were in the 2015 edition, and one in 2023.
Mahmudullah's retirement follows Mushfiqur Rahim's recent decision to retire from ODIs, with both players' roles in the national team having been under scrutiny post-Champions Trophy.
- ODIs: 239 matches
- Tests: 50 matches
- T20Is: 141 matches
- World Cup centuries: 3 (2 in 2015, 1 in 2023)
Mahmudullah's farewell message concluded with best wishes for his team and Bangladesh cricket, emphasizing the need to move forward despite imperfections.
