IPL Extends Extra Time for Matches by One Hour

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the extra time stipulated for an IPL match by an hour. All IPL games from May 20 will have an extra waiting period of 120 minutes.

The BCCI said the change in playing conditions (Clause 13.7.3) is coming into force with immediate effect. The extra time will be available to commence the match in the event of a delay.

Reason for the Change

The IPL Governing Council has decided to extend the extra time due to the current threat of rain and the revised schedule. The Indian Premier League (IPL) has commenced after a brief hiatus and will conclude on June 3, 2025.

Impact of the Change

Several matches are at risk of being affected by rain due to the early onset of the monsoon and the extended IPL period. The IPL governing council has made adjustments to the Match Playing Conditions to mitigate this risk.
