Chris Woakes to feature in England Lions squad ahead of India Tests
Chris Woakes has been selected in the England Lions squad for their upcoming matches against India A, the ECB announced on May 21. Woakes had been sidelined due to an ankle injury, which delayed his start to the summer and prevented him from playing in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe.
The 36-year-old will now look to regain his form by featuring in the games against India A, which begin on May 30. These matches will be crucial for Woakes as he aims to secure a spot in the Test squad for the five-match series against India in June.
The squad also includes international stars Rehan Ahmed and Dan Mousley, as well as James Rew, who will lead the side. Jordan Cox is expected to be fit for the second match, which starts on June 6.
"This series against a strong India A side is a huge opportunity for an exciting and highly talented group of players," said ECB Performance Director for Men's Cricket, Ed Barney. "It will provide an opportunity both individually and collectively to excel on the international stage as we continue to succession plan for England's future needs."
