Carty, Forde efforts dampened by washout in Dublin

A record-equalling knock from Matthew Forde and a composed century from Keacy Carty were rendered futile as persistent rain forced a no result in the second ODI between Ireland and West Indies in Dublin.

Carty laid the foundation with a well-paced 102 off 109 balls, featuring 13 fours and a six. Forde then lit up the end overs with a stunning 16-ball fifty, equalling AB de Villiers's record for the fastest ODI half-century.

The West Indies innings got off to a positive start, with Evin Lewis and Brandon King striking five fours between them in the first three overs. However, King's outing was cut short by Barry McCarthy, who lured him into a drive and had him caught at second slip.

Carty, who had scored 21 off 40, shifted gears as he struck a four off Andy McBrine followed by two more fours in the 20th over off Liam McCarthy. He brought up a 67-ball fifty and pressed on the accelerator, hitting two fours and a six in an over off Barry McCarthy.

The brisk 60-run fourth wicket stand came to an end when Amir Jangoo fell to George Dockrell, but Carty continued positively, collecting regular boundaries to power West Indies past 200 in the 35th over. He got to a 105-ball hundred but got out soon after, edging to the 'keeper off Liam McCarthy.

An exceptional knock from Forde followed, helping West Indies finish their innings well. Forde got going with a maximum off Barry McCarthy before striking four sixes in the 45th over off Joshua Little. He added another four to his tally before Forde was finally dismissed for a 19-ball 58.

The rain arrived during the break and persisted for an extended period, much to the frustration of West Indies, who had posted a commanding total and would have backed themselves to level the series. However, by the time rain abated, it was getting too close to the cut off time and after a few conversations with the groundsmen, the umpires eventually decided to call it off.

Brief scores: West Indies 352/8 in 50 overs (Keacy Carty 102, Matthew Forde 58, Shai Hope 49; Liam McCarthy 3-66) vs Ireland. No result.
