Joe Root's 166* gives England unassailable 2-0 series lead

England clinched the series against West Indies with a three-wicket win in the second ODI in Cardiff. West Indies posted a competitive 308, but Joe Root's heroics proved too much to overcome, with England reaching the target with seven balls to spare.

West Indies' Innings

West Indies had an early setback, but Keacy Carty and Brandon King overcame the challenging phase and began to collect regular boundaries. Carty brought up his third ODI hundred this year, and Shai Hope also reached his fifty. West Indies eventually folded with 2.2 overs still remaining.

England's Innings

England got off to a great start with the ball, but West Indies hit back, ending the 85-run stand. Joe Root, who had a slow start, got going with four fours in an over. Root went past fifty and also became England's leading run-getter in ODIs, surpassing Eoin Morgan. Root's shift into a higher gear put England firmly in command.

Brief Scores

West Indies 308 in 47.4 overs (Keacy Carty 103, Shai Hope 78, Brandon King 59; Adil Rashid 4-63, Saqib Mahmood 3-37) lost to England 312/7 in 50 overs (Joe Root 166*, Will Jacks 49, Harry Brook 47; Alzarri Joseph 4-31) by 3 wickets.
