Clash of table-toppers ends in abandonment

The much-anticipated top-of-the-table clash between Joburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape ended in abandonment after incessant rain at the Wanderers. The toss was initially delayed, with players forced to abandon their pre-game routines due to lightning, which soon escalated into a hailstorm followed by steady rain, wiping out more than two and a half hours of play.

The skies eventually cleared to allow officials to schedule a five-over contest. JSK skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to chase. However, just as the teams were set to take the field for a 4.15 pm local start, rain returned, sending the players back and leaving the match referee with no option but to abandon the match.

The no result meant JSK remained unbeaten after four games, while the two-time champions SEC now have two bonus points and a loss to go with this washout.

The second game of the Saturday double header in Centurion also faced a similar fate, with incessant rainfall forcing the Pretoria Capitals and the Durban Super Giants to split points. This was DSG's second no result of the season and leaves them in fourth spot. The Capitals are one spot below with just one win from four games.
