Pooran, Smith blitz powers MICT to first win of season
MI Cape Town secured their first win of the season in their sixth game, beating the Joburg Super Kings in a rain-affected match. Cameos from Nicholas Pooran (33 off 15) and Jason Smith (22 off 7) guided MICT to chase down the revised target of 128 in a 12-over contest.
The match faced delays due to rain, reducing it to 12 overs per side. Batting first, JSK started strongly with James Vince and Faf du Plessis hitting early boundaries. However, MICT fought back with quick wickets, though du Plessis maintained momentum with a 19-run over. Another rain break halted his progress, and he was dismissed soon after. JSK finished on 123 for 7, with Corbin Bosch taking 3 wickets.
MICT's chase began poorly with Ryan Rickelton falling early. Nicholas Pooran then launched an assault, hitting five sixes in his brief stay. After his dismissal, Rassie van der Dussen steadied the innings. In the closing stages, Jason Smith's explosive 22 off 7 balls, including two sixes in an over, brought the equation down. Karim Janat then hit the winning runs in front of a lively Newlands crowd.
Brief Scores:
Joburg Super Kings 123/7 in 12 overs (Faf du Plessis 44; Corbin Bosch 3-24) lost to MI Cape Town 128/6 in 11.2 overs (Rassie van der Dussen 35, Nicholas Pooran 33; Nandre Burger 2-23) by four wickets.
