Markram ton keeps DSG's playoffs hopes alive

Aiden Markram smashed his second SA20 century to lead Durban's Super Giants to a dominant 58-run win over Paarl Royals, keeping their playoff hopes alive. Markram's 108 included a 28-run over off Sikandar Raza, propelling DSG to 189/7. Their bowlers then delivered a comprehensive performance, restricting the Royals to 131/9.

DSG's innings faced early setbacks, losing Sunil Narine and Jos Buttler to be 9/2. Kane Williamson and Markram responded with a counter-attack, but Williamson fell for 22. Markram then accelerated, reaching his half-century and finding support from Heinrich Klaasen. After Klaasen's dismissal, Markram unleashed a brutal assault on Raza in the penultimate over, hitting 6, 4, 6, 6, 4, 2 to complete a stunning century.

In reply, Paarl Royals had a stuttering PowerPlay, managing only 36 runs. Kyle Verreynne's brisk 22 ended when Narine bowled him. Spinners applied pressure, with Simon Harmer taking a key wicket of David Miller to finish with 1/13. At 55/3 after 10 overs, the chase fizzled out. Bjorn Fortuin's unbeaten 35 helped the Royals avoid a more severe collapse.

Brief scores: Durban's Super Giants 189/7 in 20 overs (Aiden Markram 108; Hardus Viljoen 4/21) beat Paarl Royals 131/9 in 20 overs (Bjorn Fortuin 35*; Sunil Narine 2/18) by 58 runs.
