Washout sends Zimbabwe through to Super Eights; Australia eliminated

Persistent rain at Pallekele forced the game between Zimbabwe and Ireland to be abandoned without a toss. With points shared, Zimbabwe have secured qualification to the Super Eights alongside Sri Lanka from Group B, leaving Australia eliminated.

The ground remained covered throughout the afternoon as intermittent drizzles extinguished hopes of even a shortened contest. The game was eventually abandoned at 5:30 PM local time.

The result marked Australia's fifth failure to reach the semi-finals in the last six T20 World Cups. It stands in contrast to their ODI World Cup record, where they have reached the semi-finals in five of the last six editions.

Zimbabwe's qualification also means seven of the eight teams for the Super Eights stage have now been confirmed, with Pakistan, USA and Netherlands in contention for the final remaining spot from Group A.

Brief Scores: Zimbabwe vs Ireland (match abandoned without toss)
