Rawalpindiz Succumb to Seventh Consecutive Defeat

Rawalpindiz suffered their seventh consecutive defeat, losing by 32 runs to Lahore Qalandars, who snapped a three-match winless streak in the PSL on Saturday.

Lahore Qalandars posted 210/4, headlined by openers Fakhar Zaman (84) and Mohammad Farooq (63), who put on a 121-run partnership. This was only Farooq's second PSL game.

Rawalpindiz's decision to open with spin backfired, with Asif Afridi and Cole McConchie conceding 66 runs from their combined six overs. The fielding was poor, featuring dropped catches and misfields. Mohammad Amir eventually broke the opening stand, dismissing Farooq, and was the pick of the bowlers with 2/25. Despite late wickets from debutant Razaullah (2/45), Asif Ali finished strongly with two sixes off the final two balls.

In reply, Rawalpindiz's chase faltered early. Skipper Shaheen Afridi struck twice in his second over, removing Shahzaib Khan and Mohammad Rizwan. Yasir Khan counter-attacked with a 24-ball fifty, but Daryl Mitchell struggled before falling to Haris Rauf. Sam Billings was greeted with a fierce bouncer from Rauf, and Yasir fell soon after, leaving the team at 89/4.

The required rate climbed out of reach. Sikandar Raza and Usama Mir dismissed Billings and Dian Forrester in successive overs. Saad Masood provided late resistance with a brisk fifty, but it was insufficient.

Rawalpindiz are now the second team in PSL history, after the 2022 Karachi Kings, to lose their first seven matches of a season and are officially eliminated from the tournament. Lahore Qalandars move to sixth place with six points.

Brief Scores:
Lahore Qalandars 210/4 in 20 overs (Fakhar Zaman 84, Mohammad Farooq 63; Mohammad Amir 2-25) beat Rawalpindiz 178 all out in 19.2 overs (Yasir Khan 58, Saad Masood 54; Haris Rauf 3-43, Shaheen Afridi 2-19) by 32 runs.
