Injured Ayush Mhatre ruled out of remainder of IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings suffered a blow after Ayush Mhatre was ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 with a hamstring injury. CSK confirmed the 18-year-old's injury requires a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks, ruling him out of the competition.
The youngster was seen clutching his left hamstring after attempting a second run while batting against SRH in Hyderabad on April 18. He required on-field attention before getting out and was helped off the field. Scans on Monday determined the extent of the injury.
Mhatre's absence will hurt CSK, with the five-time champions already struggling for momentum. After losing their first three games, CSK won the next two before losing again in Hyderabad. Mhatre has been their top-scorer, with two half-centuries at a strike rate of 177.87.
CSK were dealt a blow earlier when seamer Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out. They also lost Nathan Ellis to injury before the tournament began, and Dewald Brevis missed initial games. Veteran MS Dhoni hasn't been available yet and could be a contender to return, subject to fitness. CSK's next fixture is against Mumbai Indians on April 23 at Wankhede Stadium.
