CSK sign Akash Madhwal as Ayush Mhatre replacement
Chennai Super Kings have named right-arm pacer Akash Madhwal as a replacement for top-order batter Ayush Mhatre, who was ruled out for the remainder of IPL 2026 with a hamstring injury. Madhwal joins CSK for INR 30 Lakh.
Madhwal began as a net bowler with RCB in 2019. In 2022, Mumbai Indians signed him as a replacement for an injured Suryakumar Yadav. He didn't play that season but impressed in the nets. In 2023, he took 14 wickets in eight matches, including remarkable figures of 5 for 5 against Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator in Chennai. He played five matches in 2024, taking five wickets.
Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 1.20 crore at the mega auction ahead of 2025. He played four matches for RR and was released. He had no takers in the next auction but has now found a new home at CSK.
Madhwal adds bowling depth for CSK, who have been hit by injuries to Nathan Ellis (before the tournament) and Khaleel Ahmed (midway).
