Tanzid Hasan, Amite Hasan picked in squad for first Test against Pakistan
Bangladesh have included two uncapped players – Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan – in their 15-member squad for the opening Test against Pakistan, scheduled at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium from May 8.
Pace duo Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam return to the Test fold for the first time since November-December 2024 while off-spinner Nayeem Hasan is also back nearly a year after playing his last Test.
Opener Tanzid Hasan, who has already established himself in white-ball cricket, has earned his first Test call-up. The 25-year-old left-hander has an impressive first-class record with 1792 runs in 25 matches at an average of 40.
"Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket. He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability," said Habibul Bashar, chairman of the national selection panel.
Habibul added that he is also impressed with prolific 23-year-old right-handed middle-order batsman Amite Hasan, who averages 49 in first-class cricket having played 82 matches since his debut in 2019.
"Amite has earned his call-up as he has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket," added Habibul.
The Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host the second Test which begins on May 16. The matches are part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
