Josh Inglis links up with LSG in Mumbai ahead of May 4 game
Josh Inglis, whose auction deal sparked debate over conflicting availability claims, has arrived in India. The Australian has landed in Mumbai and will be available for selection for Lucknow Super Giants' game against Mumbai Indians on May 4. His savage assault on Jasprit Bumrah was a defining moment of Punjab Kings' IPL 2025 season.
Inglis had stirred controversy by declining retention from PBKS, citing limited availability due to personal reasons, prompting a sharp reaction from a PBKS co-owner. He was with PBKS for INR 2.6 crore. LSG bought him for INR 8.6 crore at auction, with reports suggesting he could arrive earlier than expected.
His arrival is well-timed for LSG, who sit at the bottom of the table with two wins from eight games — same as Mumbai Indians ahead of Monday's clash at Wankhede Stadium.
Inglis (31) has scored 52 runs off 34 balls against Bumrah across two matches, famously smashing 20 runs in a single over during PBKS's Qualifier 2 win last year. He should bolster LSG against a Bumrah-led Mumbai attack.
The wicketkeeper-batter is expected to train with the LSG squad at Wankhede on Saturday evening. In 11 matches, Inglis has scored 278 runs at a strike rate over 162, including one half-century.
Azmatullah to return on May 7
Azmatullah Omarzai will rejoin PBKS on May 7. The Afghan all-rounder returned home after his mother's passing; the team wore black armbands during their April 28 game against Rajasthan Royals as a tribute. Omarzai, bought for INR 2.6 crore, has not played for PBKS this season.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer mourned Omarzai's loss, saying, "On behalf of the whole team, I just want to convey our heartfelt condolences to Azmat and his family. We are with him through thick and thin."
