In just his second Test appearance, wicketkeeper-batter Amir Jangoo showed necessary defiance with an unbeaten 78 off 174 balls, crucial to West Indies' riposte on Day 2 in Antigua. Captain Roston Chase finished on 42* at the other end of an unbeaten 103-run stand, taking West Indies to 271/5.

West Indies started brightly. Openers John Campbell and Brandon King saw off the first hour and added 58 for the opening wicket. Milan Rathnayake ended that partnership in the 14th over, but Campbell carried on with Kavem Hodge, taking West Indies to 89/1 at Lunch.

Sri Lanka came back from the break with renewed vigour, breaking through more regularly in the middle phase. Campbell fell early to Sonal Dinusha. Hodge, Joshua da Silva and Justin Greaves all got starts but couldn't press on. Jangoo and da Silva nearly built a big partnership with a 52-run stand, but an exceptionally frugal Asitha Fernando (2/25 in 18 overs) removed da Silva. West Indies lost four wickets for 79 runs in the middle session.

Jangoo and Chase then batted out 203 deliveries, including the entirety of the final session. The visitors were also a bowler short as Lahiru Kumara left the field with a hamstring issue early in the day. The pair added 103 runs, putting West Indies within touching distance of Sri Lanka's first-innings total.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 308 (Dhananjaya de Silva 120, Dinesh Chandimal 54; Justin Greaves 3-39) lead West Indies 271/5 (Amir Jangoo 78*, Roston Chase 42*; Asitha Fernando 2-25) by 37 runs
