Dhoni Skips Delhi Trip, Continues Rehab in Chennai
MS Dhoni has not travelled to New Delhi for Chennai Super Kings' match against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday (May 6). He has stayed back in Chennai to continue rehabilitation for a calf injury.
Dhoni is still not match-ready, but franchise officials haven't ruled out him playing this season. "He should be available at some stage," a senior team official told Cricbuzz. CSK have five games left.
After Delhi, CSK host Lucknow Super Giants on May 10, then face Delhi again in Lucknow on May 15. They host Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18 and travel to Ahmedabad for their final league match against Gujarat Titans on May 21.
Dhoni hasn't played a game this season. His last IPL appearance was against GT on May 25, 2025.
CSK are sixth in the points table with four wins from nine games. They need at least four wins from their remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma's availability for Mumbai Indians remains unclear, though there are encouraging signs. The team management has left the decision to Rohit on whether to play Monday's home game against Lucknow Super Giants.
Rohit, out of action since April 12, batted for almost an hour on Sunday evening at Wankhede after fitness drills. He came to the ground on a travel day with head coach Mahela Jayawardene for a long batting session.
The hamstring injury has kept Rohit out of five games, four of which MI lost. Given the importance of Monday's fixture, Rohit may decide to play.
