Babette de Leede to captain Netherlands in their maiden Women's T20 World Cup

Netherlands have named their maiden Women's T20 World Cup squad, for the upcoming event in June-July in England. Babette de Leede will carry forward her family legacy in the sport, after her uncle Tim de Leede and cousin Bas de Leede represented the men's team in World Cups, and lead the team in the tournament.

"We are super excited for our first ever appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup," captain Babette de Leede said. "It will be a great opportunity to compete with the best teams in the world, and to show the talent that we have in the Netherlands on the big stage. We hope to make the Dutch cricket community proud and to inspire young girls in the Netherlands.

"Because the T20 World Cup is played close to our home, in England, we expect a big orange crowd and a lot of support. It will be an experience of a lifetime, not just for us as a team, but also for our families, friends, and everyone who has Dutch women's cricket at heart."

Netherlands squad: Babette de Leede (c), Caroline de Lange, Frederique Overdijk, Hannah Landheer, Heather Siegers, Iris Zwilling, Isabel van der Woning, Lara Leemhuis, Myrthe van den Raad, Phebe Molkenboer, Robine Rijke, Rosalie Lawrence, Sanya Khurana, Silver Siegers, Sterre Kalis

Netherlands find themselves at the World Cup after securing crucial wins in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers in January-February this year in Nepal.

With this same squad, Netherlands will fine-tune their preparation for the big tournament with a T20I triseries in Scotland, also involving Bangladesh. At the World Cup, Netherlands are grouped with India, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Babette's team will kick-start their World Cup campaign against Bangladesh in Edgbaston on June 14. They play their remaining group stage games in Leeds (India), Southampton (Australia) and Bristol (South Africa & Pakistan).
