'Past is Past' – Bangladesh, Pakistan Eye Clean Slate
Bangladesh and Pakistan are looking to move past their previous meeting, where Bangladesh secured a historic Test series win over Pakistan. Both teams now prepare for the two-match Test series opener at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on May 8.
Bangladesh's series win in 2024 has been a key talking point, but neither camp is dwelling on it.
"That is history now. We want to make new history," said Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons. "We have to put those things behind us and focus on Friday."
Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi echoed the sentiment: "The past is the past. We are preparing to win the championship, not just a single series."
Bangladesh last played in November 2025 against Ireland, while Pakistan last faced South Africa in 2025.
Simmons believes the shift to red-ball cricket won't be difficult: "Several players have been working with the red ball for the last couple of months. It will be an easier shift than you think."
Shaheen added: "This period is very important for us as a Test team. We are focusing on the World Test Championship. Our goal is to qualify for the final and win it."
