BCB sets May 16 deadline for councillor nominations ahead of board elections
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Wednesday that it has requested associations, clubs and other organisations to submit the names of their councillors by May 16.
Former national captain Tamim Iqbal is currently serving as interim head after the National Sports Council dissolved the Aminul Islam-led body on charges of misuse of power. The interim administration has been entrusted with conducting the next BCB election within 30 days.
On April 4, the BCB announced the election process by approving a three-member Election Commission. On Wednesday, following the fourth meeting of the BCB ad-hoc committee, the board confirmed it had finalised the list of organisations from which the names of 192 councillors will be invited across three categories.
"The Board finalized the list of Associations, Clubs, and Organizations from which the names of 192 Councillors will be invited under three categories, pursuant to Article 12.7 of the BCB Constitution," the BCB said in a statement.
These 191 councillors will elect a total of 25 directors to the board, structured as follows: 12 directors elected by Dhaka club councillors, 10 directors elected by regional and district councillors, one director representing other organisations such as public universities and former cricketers, and two directors nominated by the National Sports Council. The BCB president will be elected by the 25 directors.
District coach applicants to undergo assessment process
The BCB also announced it has decided to form a committee to assess applicants for the 64 district coach positions following the expiry of current coaches' contracts. The assessment will comprise both theoretical and practical components.
The board also confirmed that contracts of umpires and match referees have been extended by three months after expiring on April 30.
